Why engage in gatekeeping when there is more upside from letting people “in” than downside from keeping people “out”? Are we somehow doing the industry a favour through this illusion of exclusivity? Why discourage or prevent anyone from achieving what we have because they did not follow the same path? We hear of the struggles in establishing a cybersecurity career and constantly complain of a “skills shortage” but become defensive of our place in the world. Career entry is inconsistent and complex. Attitude and aptitude are critical and some of the best cyber minds are not from a technical background.
